He published the book of “La muerte sabe a café” 2017, which was later republished as “La sentencia del miedo” 2018. Subsequently published the novels: “El cofre de Chamselaw” 2019, and “Una bestia llamada guerra” 2020.

He also led the preparation and publication of two anthologies of short stories with Costa Rican authors: “Avenidas de lo insólito” 2019 and “X035, un relato con perfidia” 2020. The latter project received a grant from the Costa Rican Ministry of Culture and Youth.

Since 2018 she is dedicated to give literature workshops under the concept of his workshop “Pluma independiente” on topics such as creative writing, history and philosophy of the novel.

José Gerardo Suárez is an independent historian whose work has been key to understanding the roots and evolution of Costa Rica as a nation.

His journey in Costa Rican historiography began in 2015 with his first book, Costa Rica Antigua e Inédita. This is a work that has become an indispensable reference for scholars and lovers of the country’s history. Suárez does not stop there. His most recent work, Puntarenas: su historia (2024), continues his tradition of offering detailed and captivating narratives of Costa Rican history.

Throughout his career, he has devoted meticulous efforts to narrate the history of Costa Rica through images, texts and accurate chronologies. He provides a visual and profound understanding of the events and characters that have shaped the country’s identity.

Suárez’s books transcend borders, as they are available in Spanish and English. They can also be found in educational bookstores, cultural centers and in the hands of readers in the United States, Mexico, Canada, among others. His impact has been such that international magazines, such as Howler Magazine, have recognized his work, amplifying the visibility of Costa Rican history abroad.

In addition, Suárez’s works are widely used by teachers and students to visually explore Costa Rica’s historical events and characters. His innovative and accessible approach has made his work a valuable tool in education.

Despite his many accomplishments, José Gerardo Suárez continues to work on new projects with the mission of bringing Costa Rican history to a global audience.

Nicolás Boeglin is Professor of Public International Law at the Law School of the University of Costa Rica. With an outstanding academic career, Boeglin has established himself as an expert in international law issues. He addresses complex and current issues in his research and publications. His teaching work has been fundamental in the formation of new generations of jurists, providing a deep and critical understanding of public international law and its global implications.

In addition to his academic work, Boeglin is recognized for his participation in national and international conferences and seminars.
