According to an ancient Chorotega legend, the island was given to Princess Chira by the powerful priest Nacaome as a wedding gift. It is said that Chira was the first inhabitant of the island, giving it an aura of romanticism and mysticism since time immemorial.<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Pre-Columbian Legacy<\/h5>\n\n<p>The vestiges of the first settlers of Chira date back to the aborigines of the Intermediate Area. The black pottery found on the island suggests a connection with the Corobic\u00edes and Chorotegas, indigenous peoples who inhabited the region since the eighth century. This area was an important center of commercial exchange, where products such as ceramics, pearls and salt had a high commercial value.<\/p>\n\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Spanish Conquest Footprint<\/h5>\n\n<p>The arrival of the Spanish brought significant changes to the island. Part of the kingdom of Paro, Chira was visited by explorers such as Gil Gonz\u00e1lez D\u00e1vila in 1523.
