More space, big names in international literature, and new opportunities for national authors will mark the 2025 edition of the FILCR.

From July 19 to 27, the Costa Rica Convention Center will host the 23rd edition of the Costa Rica International Book Fair (FILCR), an event that has been completely revamped this year. Organized by the Costa Rican Chamber of Books, the fair promises to be an authentic literary and cultural celebration, with free admission and an ambitious program that seeks to attract audiences of all ages.

With a professional structure and inclusive vision, FILCR 2025 aims to strengthen the bond between reading and culture in Costa Rica. This edition offers expanded space, top international authors, and new chances for Costa Rican writers and publishers to present their work.

Special international guests

Among the most prominent figures participating this year is Spanish writer Irene Vallejo, renowned for her acclaimed essay El infinito en un junco (Infinity in a Reed), who will be present during the first weekend of the fair. Also participating will be her compatriot Santiago Posteguillo, famous for his historical novels, who will join the program on the second weekend. They will be joined by Panamanian Juan David Morgan, author of historical novels set in the isthmus.

One of the main focuses of this edition will be to highlight the region’s literary production. The fair seeks to break with the trend of neglecting Central American writers and encourage Costa Rican readers to engage with the voices of neighboring countries, recognizing both their literary quality and cultural richness.

New spaces and greater inclusion for upcoming authors

The fair will be spread throughout the Talamanca Hall, as well as the foyer of the convention center, the renovated Comic Hall.

One of the main new features will be the collective bookstore in the main hall, managed by the Costa Rican Chamber of Books. This initiative will allow emerging authors and publishers to sell their books for a nominal fee, without having to purchase their own stand. In addition, there will be a craft exhibition and a book cover contest, in collaboration with participating publishers.

Honoring two pillars of Costa Rican literature

FILCR 2025 will pay tribute to two institutions that have played a fundamental role in the history of books in Costa Rica: Editorial Costa Rica, which is celebrating 65 years of publishing this year, and Librería Internacional, which has been bringing reading to the Costa Rican public for 30 years.

During the week, the fair will host the educational program “La ventana de los héroes” (The Window of Heroes), which will bring together international authors, sports figures, and cultural personalities in discussions with elementary and high school students. The goal is to foster inspiration, critical thinking, and a love of reading from an early age.

The twenty-third edition of the FILCR is held with the firm conviction that if it has lasted so long, despite countless difficulties that have always been overcome, it is because the national population makes it possible, needs it, and appreciates it.

FILCR 2025: an invitation to the entire country

Organizers are calling on families, educational institutions, book clubs, and people of all ages to join in this celebration of literature. This year’s event will offer a unique space to enjoy reading and culture.
