Route of Lights: Christmas in San José

Nearly 400 lighting systems illuminate at least seven parks and iconic spaces in the city of San José starting on the evening of Tuesday, December 2, officially kicking off the Christmas season in the capital.
Some of the main spots that got a special touch are Paseo Colón, which now has 150 light displays. Avenida Segunda has 60 L-shaped banners, while Nicaragua (Zapote) and Okayama parks got some cool 3D decorations. Hatillo 10 Boulevard also joined in the celebration with 10 two-dimensional figures that will add sparkle to pedestrian traffic.

Two giant murals were installed in La Sabana Metropolitan Park, located in front of the statue of León Cortés and on 10th Avenue. This has become a new attraction for those visiting the area during the festivities.
The Central Park, the heart of the event, features 25 three-dimensional figures and a 15-meter-high Christmas tree. It is also accompanied by figures inspired by the country’s wildlife: monkeys, tapirs, butterflies, sharks, turtles, frogs, and macaws, reflecting Costa Rica’s natural wealth in an urban context.
There is lighting in different places. These 400 devices are well distributed throughout several parks in the capital. They will be lit from 6:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., from today until January 6.
The parks and public spaces that form part of the light trail include:
- La Merced Park
- Garantías Sociales Park
- National Park
- Morazán Park
- Nicaragua Park
- Okayama Park
- Central Park
This route of lights is just the first event in a month packed with activities such as: The Light Festival, the Avenidazo, and an international concert.
