Dialogues on artistic practices and bodies of water

Centro Cultural de España, CCE

31st Street, 11-13 Avenue, Bo. Escalante. – San José

As part of the exhibition Submersion: Artistic Dialogues on the Aquatic and the Human, a discussion will be held to explore the work of the participating artists, with water as the central theme of a curatorial project that intertwines sensibilities, experiences, and critical perspectives.

This event seeks to expand the perspective on the works, addressing three essential dimensions that run through the exhibition: the intimate, the sensory, and the denunciatory. Through exchanges with the creators, a space for reflection will be opened on how water is not only represented, but also becomes a means of exploring what it means to be human.

Dialogues between art and water

The intimate and personal dimension is evident in works that reveal memories, emotions, and processes of individual transformation. Here, water appears as a symbolic mirror where identities, fragilities, and moments of profound change are projected. It is a vital resource, but also an inner landscape where universal experiences are represented through deeply personal stories.

On the sensory level, the focus shifts to physical and perceptual experience. The pieces invite us to contemplate the relationship between the body and water, highlighting phenomena such as the alteration of gravity, the flow of movement, and the variations of light underwater. This exploration allows us to think of water not only as a substance, but as an environment that modifies perception and activates a different sensitivity, closer to vulnerability and connection with the essential.

Finally, the dimension of ecological denunciation gains strength through works that confront the water crisis and the devastation of marine ecosystems. The artists use different visual and conceptual languages to address the problems of excessive consumption, pollution, and disconnection from nature. In this sense, their works not only alert us, but also invite us to rethink our relationship with the environment, from open criticism to more introspective gestures that challenge our environmental consciousness.

This discussion is an opportunity to hear the artists speak for themselves, understand the motivations behind their work, and engage in dialogue about an element that, beyond its physical presence, inhabits our memories, senses, and shared responsibilities.
