My visit to the Hotel Trapp Family Monteverde began in San José, where I took the Inter-American Highway north to kilometer 133. At that point, I turned toward Sardinal and continued for approximately 29 kilometers until I reached Santa Elena. From there, I drove 6 kilometers following the signs to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve. The last stretch is an unpaved road, so a four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended.

The main advantage of this hotel is its strategic location: it is the closest accommodation to the Monteverde Reserve, which makes it easy to access the trails and activities in the area. From the very first moment, I received warm and professional service, reflecting the family hospitality that characterizes the place.

Activities and guided tours

The hotel combines comfort and nature. Its rooms are spacious, cozy, and overlook the reserve itself. Their restaurant offers both national and international cuisine, with bar service and a pleasant atmosphere. During my stay, I also had the opportunity to participate in guided tours that allow you to appreciate the local flora and fauna.

One aspect that I believe sets the Trapp Family apart is its commitment to sustainability. The company has a management system that integrates five main plans:

  • Corporate Social Responsibility
  • Human Resources
  • Environmental Management
  • Marketing
  • Food Safety

Its operating model focuses on reducing negative impacts, optimizing positive ones, and complying with sustainable development regulations. It also incorporates regenerative development practices, which seek not only to conserve resources but also to restore them for the benefit of future generations.

A model of responsible and regenerative tourism

On the social front, they stand out for their inclusive hiring policies, training opportunities, and commitment to the local community. Regarding the environment, they implement measures to protect biodiversity, use native plants, and reject the illegal trade of wild species. They also participate in initiatives that promote human dignity and reject any form of exploitation in tourism.

The hotel’s mission clearly reflects this approach:

We are a mountain hotel, born from a family dream, that works with passion and excellence to ensure our guests enjoy unique, memorable, and relaxing experiences, inspired by our socio-cultural, environmental, and economic commitment to Monteverde.

Its vision, meanwhile, is to consolidate its position as the leading hotel in the area, creating high-quality experiences with a strong focus on social and environmental responsibility.
