The convention will welcome BOOKAFEST for the first time, featuring Costa Rican independent authors and publishers specializing in fantasy, science fiction, adventure and dystopian fiction.

Fantasy literature, science fiction and dystopian stories written in Costa Rica will have a place at Comic Con Costa Rica 2026. The convention will take place on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, at the Costa Rica Convention Center in Heredia. This year, it will partner with BOOKAFEST, a fair dedicated to independent authors and entrepreneurs in Costa Rica.

This collaboration will bring Costa Rican literature closer to fans of comics, manga, animation and video games. Attendees will be able to discover books by Costa Rican writers and explore works across various genres, from fantasy and adventure to dystopian fiction.

The initiative offers an opportunity to increase the visibility of independent publications and connect their creators with readers interested in imaginary worlds and stories that are also part of popular culture.

BOOKAFEST to Bring Costa Rican Authors and Publishers to Comic Con

Daniel Fernández Masís, founder and organizer of BOOKAFEST, will participate with titles such as Testigo de mi muerte, Las vidas de un día and Travesía de dos hermanos. His work spans crime thrillers, short stories, adventure and dystopian fantasy.

Participants will also include Le Fernández, author of Essence, Enlace, Silencio and Única. Her writing combines elements of fantasy, dystopian fiction and romance.

Andrea Zúñiga, creator of the young adult trilogy Aryadians, will also take part in the event. Her series combines action, adventure and fantasy. Meanwhile, Floria Álvarez will present her work from the fantasy saga El regreso de las reinas, which includes the books Aire, Tierra and Fuego.

The independent publisher Geniality+ will also participate. Its catalog includes works by emerging authors, such as Otrevor: Herederos de la luz y las sombras, by Luis Roberto Rodríguez. The participation of these writers and publishers will give visitors the chance to discover different forms of Costa Rican literature and explore books that are not always represented in traditional publishing channels.

International Guests and Pop Culture Activities

Comic Con Costa Rica 2026 will also feature international guests associated with some of the entertainment industry’s best-known franchises. One of them will be Jeff Ward, who plays Buggy in Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece.

He is also known for playing Deke Shaw in Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Joining him will be voice actress Jennifer English, known for voicing Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3. Her credits also include Elden Ring and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The guest lineup will additionally feature Ryan Drummond, the original English voice of Sonic the Hedgehog, and voice actor Reed Shannon, known for his work in productions such as Arcane and 2XKO.

Attendees will have opportunities to meet the guests in person, take photographs and obtain autographs. The convention will also offer gaming areas, interactive activities and spaces dedicated to different pop culture interests.

The program will include guest cosplayers and graphic artists, adding to the activities for fans of comics, video games, animation and other art forms.

A Partnership Between Literature and Popular Culture

BOOKAFEST’s participation will expand Comic Con Costa Rica’s program by bringing independent literature into an event that celebrates different forms of entertainment. The initiative will also allow Costa Rican writers to present their work to audiences who share an interest in fantasy, science fiction and the fictional worlds found in comics and video games.

The 2026 edition will bring together international entertainment figures and Costa Rican authors and publishing projects. This partnership will give visitors a chance to discover new books and recognize the contribution of independent publishing to Costa Rican culture.
