Museo del Jade (Jade Museum)

The Jade and Pre-Columbian Culture Museum of the National Insurance Institute (INS) will open to the public the temporary exhibition “Cartografías del corazón” (Cartographies of the Heart), a display of works by Costa Rican visual artist Sussy Vargas Alvarado.

The exhibition will be open to the public in the Temporary Exhibition Hall, located on the first floor of the museum, until August 3. It consists of 40 works that reflect on memory, loss, and transformation.

The museum says it’s about the story of absences that draw a map on skin, hands, and eyes. This exhibition is an exploration of memory through images, objects, and words. Designed as the artist’s personal map, each piece traces a journey through absence, memory, and transformation. Through her own words, Sussy constructs a cartography where time and experience leave their mark in the form of shadow, light, or matter.

Sussy Vargas Alvarado is a renowned visual artist, researcher, teacher, and cultural manager. Her specialties include the history of photography in Costa Rica and ancient photographic processes. She also has extensive experience in the restoration, registration, dating, and conservation of photographic archives in both institutional and private settings.
